Mazuri® regularly reviews new research to make sure our products continue to meet the needs of animals in professional care. Based on recent findings, Mazuri is updating the iodine level in the Mazuri Shark & Ray Supplement. The updated formula will continue to support normal thyroid health in sharks and rays while helping reduce the chance that animals receive more iodine than they need over time.
Why We’re Making This Update
Mazuri is updating the iodine level in the Shark & Ray Supplement based on new research and customer needs. Iodine is still important for supporting normal thyroid health in sharks and rays, but recent findings suggest that some animals may be getting more iodine than needed over time. The product update is intended to:
- Continue helping protect sharks and rays from iodine deficiency.
- Reduce the chance of animals receiving more iodine than they need long term.
- Keep the product aligned with the latest science and best practices in aquarium animal care.
This is a proactive formula update—not a change in how customers should feed the supplement.
What’s Changing
The current 5MD8 formula will be discontinued and replaced by the new 5M2W formula.
Less Iodine
- The updated formula will contain about 50% less iodine than the current formula.
- The new iodine level will be 75,000 ppm in the supplement.
- Each 0.2 g tablet will provide 15 mg of iodine.
- Each 1.5 g tablet will provide 110 mg of iodine.
Updated Label
- The label will be updated to show the new iodine level.
- Calcium and iron will no longer appear in the guaranteed analysis because they are not added as key nutrients in this product.
New Item Numbers. New item numbers will help clearly distinguish the updated formula from the current product.

What’s Staying the Same
The following aspects of the product remain unchanged:
- All nutrients are the same, except for the iodine level.
- Tablet sizes (0.2 g and 1.5 g)
- Bottle sizes
- Number of bottles per case
- Intended use within feeding programs and feeding directions
- Role of the supplement in shark and ray nutrition programs
Transition Information
- You can continue using your current product until your inventory is gone. No gradual transition is needed between the current product to the new product
- The updated product is expected to be available in Summer 2026.
How to Feed
No change is needed to how often the supplement is fed.
Customers should continue following their current feeding plans and animal care practices unless directed otherwise by their nutrition or veterinary team.
