- As Mazuri® Marmoset Jelly is very palatable, there is a risk of over consumption which, as gelatin is slightly purgative, could give rise to diarrhea. The jelly should never become the sole source of food and should not constitute more than 25% of the diet (as fed). Small amounts of fruit and other foods, preferably Mazuri® New World Primate Diet 5MA5, should also be available.
- A targeted level would be 2.5%-3.0% powder per kg of animal by body weight per day (never feed dry powder without combining with water).
- Mixing directions:
- Mix, by weight, 60% boiling (>180°F) water to 40% Mazuri® Marmoset Jelly 5041, or for a more firm product use 50% boiling water to 50% powder.
- Greater bulk can be obtained by mixing ground Mazuri® New World Primate 5MA5 with the powder before adding the hot water; this makes a soft, brittle gel.
- Mix thoroughly with a spoon, fork or whisk for one minute, then pour into a shallow pan and allow to cool.
- Refrigerate until firm. Cut into pieces appropriately sized for the animals being fed.
- Mix, by weight, 60% boiling (>180°F) water to 40% Mazuri® Marmoset Jelly 5041, or for a more firm product use 50% boiling water to 50% powder.
- Prepared jelly should only be offered when the animal may be expected to consume it in a short period of time. Food intake will vary and it is advisable to ensure that the animals are (or should be) hungry and that the choice of other foods available is limited.
Storage Conditions
Mazuri® Marmoset Jelly has a 1 year shelf life in the dry powder form when stored in a dry environment. For best results, tightly affix canister lid or store contents of open bag in container with sealing lid. Store in a cool (75°F or colder), dry (approximately 50% RH) location. The mixed product should be stored under refrigeration for no longer than 7 days. The mixed product can be frozen for 30 days.
