Mazuri® Sloth Diet

Mazuri® Sloth Diet is a high-fiber, low-starch food designed to support the health and well-being of sloths in human care. With carefully balanced calcium and phosphorus levels and reduced vitamin D compared to primate diets, this formula helps address common concerns like soft tissue mineralization and kidney issues. Just mix the powder with water to create a nutritious, high-moisture food—similar in texture to a soft granola bar—making it both easy to prepare and enjoyable for sloths to eat.

  • Palatable, high-moisture food item – Helps support hydration.
  • Concentrated Nutrient Profile – Formulated to be 25% of a sloth's overall diet, supplementing a produce and browse-based diet.
  • Controlled vitamin D and calcium formulation – Lower than primate diets frequently fed to sloths.
  • Low-starch and high-fiber – Supports digestive health.
  • Enriched with omega-3 fatty acids from flaxseed.
  • Customizable – Easy to adjust for individual sloth preferences or to administer medications.

NEVER FEED DRY POWDER

  • How to Mix and Prepare Mazuri® Sloth Diet Gel - Step-by-step instructions and pictures below.
    1. Measure Ingredients – Mix 70% hot water (at least 180 - 200⁰F/82 - 93⁰C) and 30% powder by weight. Adjust ratio to change the firmness.
      • Example: To make 150 g of prepared gel: 105 g hot water (70%) + 45 g Mazuri® Sloth Diet powder (30%)
    2. Mix the powder and water in a bowl and stir thoroughly until well mixed.
    3. Set the Gel - Pour the mixture into a shallow pan or mold. Cover and refrigerate overnight or until firm.
    4. Cut into desired sizes - 1 in x 3 – 4 in. pieces work well for sloths.
  • Feeding Recommendations:
    • For adult sloths: Gel is recommended to be 25% of the total diet (by weight).
    • For pregnant, nursing, or growing sloths: Recommended to be 30–35% of the total diet.
    • The rest of the diet should include browse, leafy greens, and non-starchy vegetables. Limit fruits and root vegetables and
avoid dairy products. Always provide plenty of fresh, clean water.
  • Prepared gel should be consumed or discarded within 24 hours or stored no longer than 7 days under refrigeration or up to 1 month frozen.
  • Thoroughly wash feed and water bowls on a regular basis. It is always good practice to wash hands thoroughly after feeding and/or handling animals. This diet is not for human consumption.

Storage Conditions
Mazuri® Gel Diets have a 1-year shelf life in the dry powder form when stored in a dry environment. For best results, tightly affix lid on canister after removal of desired dosage or store contents of open bags in container with sealing lid. Store in a cool (75⁰F/24⁰C or colder), dry (approximately 50% RH) location free from rodents and insects. Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed to animals as it may cause illness, performance loss or death. The mixed product should be stored under refrigeration for no longer than 7 days or frozen for up to 1 month. It is recommended that frozen batches be individually sealed in amount of usage, as repeated entry into the container exposes gel to oxygen. Once this product is mixed, it should be handled like raw food.
